Join the Enterprise Compensation team to learn about the compensation transformation that is underway at U.S. Bank. Their journey began in 2016 with new leadership, the expansion of the compensation team, and a renewed focus on consistent compensation practices across the enterprise.
An overall review of the team will reveal how they’re structured, their unique roles and responsibilities, and who they partner with as subject matter experts in areas such as executive and sales compensation.
Members from the team will provide an overview of the major projects they’ve undertaken that have transformed compensation, such as:
- Pay Differential program
- Pay transparency
- Job consolidations
The compensation transformation at U.S. Bank is ongoing with each new year bringing new challenges. Success will be measured by the ability to be transparent, consistent, and simple through continuous improvement.
JoAnn M. Meier, Vice President, Enterprise Compensation Director, U.S. Bancorp
JoAnn Meier has nearly 20 years of experience in the design and oversight of compensation programs that align pay for performance, attract and retain key talent, and motivate sales professionals. Most recently, JoAnn serves as Vice President and Enterprise Compensation Director at U.S. Bank. In this capacity, she leads a corporate team of talented professionals who administer a broad based company-wide compensation strategy. Specifically, JoAnn is responsible for the development and implementation of global compensation programs, the enterprise annual merit and incentive process, the periodic review/renewal of business line incentive plans, observing market trends and changing legal and regulatory requirements, and consulting with Human Resources business partners and business line leaders. Prior to joining U.S. Bank, JoAnn worked as compensation expert at large companies in the health care and financial services industries.
JoAnn services on the Twin Cities Compensation Network Board of Directors as Treasurer, has earned her Certified Compensation Professional designation through WorldatWork, and is studying for her Certified Sales Compensation Professional and Global Remuneration Professional designations. Outside of work she enjoys walking, reading, and spending time with her three grandchildren. JoAnn is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Justin M. Windschitl, Senior Vice President, Total Compensation Director, Chief Risk Officer, U.S. Bancorp
Justin Windschitl is Senior Vice President in U.S. Bancorp Human Resources. In this capacity, he is responsible for compensation and benefit decisions for the organization’s 73,000 employees, as well as leading risk, shared services, and employee relations functions.
Prior to assuming his current role, he served as Vice President and Director of Business Line Compliance Testing in the organization's Risk Management & Compliance business line. Before joining U.S. Bancorp, he spent the majority of his career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis as a Senior Examiner in the Large Complex Banking Organizations function.
Justin currently serves on the University of St. Thomas School of Law curriculum advisory board, where he helped design and advises on advanced degree programs for compliance and ethical leadership. Further, he serves as a career mentor to law students through the University's mentor externship program. In addition, he is a board member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Copper Street Brass, a non-profit organization providing music education to audiences in underserved areas.
Justin holds a JD from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and a BA in music and English from St. Olaf College. In his free time, Justin enjoys studying architecture, bicycling, and performing as a substitute musician (bassoon) with the area’s professional orchestral ensembles. He and his partner Dustin share their St. Paul home with two pugs, Striker and Leah.

Directions/Parking: The U.S. Bancorp Building is located at 800 Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis. The building is between 8th & 9th streets, and LaSalle & Nicollet. Additionally, the building offers a connected, heated, parking facility.
Parking directions for U.S. Bancorp Building:
- From 9th street, make a right turn onto LaSalle Ave. The U.S. Bancorp Parking Garage will be on your right hand side. Please note there are multiple parking garage entrances- the Bancorp garage entrance is the one just before the 8th street intersection.
- From 8th Street, make a right turn onto LaSalle Ave. The U.S. Bancorp Parking Garage will be on your immediate left side as soon as you turn onto LaSalle.
- Alternatively, you may also park at "Park & Shop". You may enter Park & Shop on either 7th Street or 8th Street between Nicollet and Hennepin Ave.
Once in the lobby of the U.S. Bancorp Center, please proceed to elevator bank corresponding with floor 3. The U.S. Bank compensation team will be available for assistance in the building lobby and on the 3rd floor to help direct you to the meeting room.
